you don’t have to finish. just start. | 25-min Pomodoro
can’t start?
you don’t have to finish today.
you only have to begin.
this is a 25-minute Pomodoro focus session with soft piano for studying or working. no pressure, no complicated system, just choose one thing, press play, and begin.
when it’s hard to start, come back here.
save this video to your watch later list or your own focus playlist. the next time you sit down and don’t know where to begin, press play again.
same piano.
same bells.
same 25 minutes.
over time, the first notes can become a quiet signal: sit down, choose one thing, begin.
use this session for:
- the first 25 minutes of your study or work day
- the essay, email, report or task you've been putting off
- one small step when everything feels overwhelming
- two or three sessions in a row, with a 5-minute break between each
why is it so hard to start?
procrastination isn’t always about laziness or poor time management. research by fuschia sirois and timothy pychyl describes procrastination as being closely connected to short-term mood regulation: avoiding the uncomfortable feelings a task brings right now, even when it makes things harder for our future self.
so this session doesn’t ask you to finish.
it makes the start smaller:
one task.
25 minutes.
permission to stop when the session ends.
p/s: if you’d like to read more, I wrote about deep work, and about the 25-min “just begin” session.
