one Pomodoro · 25 min focus + 5 min break (25/5) · calm ocean waves, soft piano break
🌊 one full Pomodoro round: 25 minutes of focus with calm ocean waves, then a gentle 5-minute guided break with soft piano. pick one task, put your phone away, and begin. when it ends, press replay for your next round.
⏱️ why fixed breaks?
in a study in the British Journal of Educational Psychology (Biwer et al., 2023), students who worked in fixed Pomodoro-style blocks (24 minutes of work, then a 6-minute break) felt less tired and distracted, and more concentrated and motivated, than students who chose their own breaks. they got just as much done, in less time. a set rhythm takes one decision off your mind: you only need to work until the bell.
📍 how to use this session
00:00 pick one task · phone away
01:00 focus now. feel proud later.
25:00 two bells · the waves soften and the piano begins: stand up, stretch, look far away, breathe, drink some water
29:40 one bell · time to come back · replay for your next round
p/s: if you’d like to explore a gentler way to focus, I wrote a little more about deep work, and about one Pomodoro: 25-min focus + 5-min break.
